Got a new beater; my first import

As for performance, I don't know how silly you want but I'd REALLY recommend Revo softwear if all you want is a good little bump in power. Revo's chips seem to make the most power. If you want more than that, get a big turbo.
GIAC Chip. You will not be disappointed. I'd also consider a dp and maybe exhuast if you're looking to really wake up the daily driver. Chip is a must for a 1.8t though.
I want to bump up the boost just a bit, but that's it. I'm not even trying to make it 'fast', just wanted a nice, comfortable, reliable daily commuter.
The back seats look like they have no leg because the front seats can move back REALLY far...
So these 'chips'.... they remap fuel/spark... is the boost controlled by the ECU/PCM , or just off of the gate?
If I were to jump into a vacuum line for a boost guage, are things as simple as jumping inline with the gate's reference, adding a[n] MBC and turning things up 3-4psi?
It may get new wheels sooner or later...
Thanks for the compliments, it's very comfortable.

The chips remap everything including an elevated redline. The problem with a manual boost controller is that the ECU controls the boost via a valve called a N75. This is an acuator vavle for the wastegate. A manual boost controller will not help with what you want.
Check this to see about the N75
A good chip (Giac or Revo, IMO) will run you about $500, but it'll add quite a bit of power. Check out www.giacusa.com

I say Revo hardcore. A buddy of mine out here went from 15.9 to 14.2 in his 1.8t GTI with nothing but a Revo chip, dp, and exhaust. Revo has selectable maps for different octane fuel and is completely undetectable if you ever wanted to take it in for maintanance. It's nothing more than an ECU reflash. A certified Revo dealer only has to hook up a laptop to your ECU for about 5-10 minutes and you're good to go. They should also be able to give you a fre or VERY cheap trial run on the softwear.
I consistantly see a .3-.5 second 1/4 mile advantage for Revo over anything else.
