I think everyone should use fiberglass and eopxy instead of polyester and carbon, the price would be way less, weight would be the same and just switching to epoxy would add as much stiffness as the carbon does. Just add paint and enjoy.

35 pounds. My friends carbon fiber hood weighed 20 pounds. The aftermarket stock hoods, weight a little more. I weighed mine that was on my coupe, and it weighed 42 pounds. I then bought a o.e. one.

Holy crap! 20 pounds? The EG hood I made a few years ago for a friend's drag hatch weighed 10.5! It was fairly minimalist, but not enough that it should be almost 10 pounds lighter than a standard cosmetic carbon hood..

For the most part I agree with Fabrik8. If your really concerned about weight, the hood would be manufactured in a way that would require painting and be Dzused on anyway. All of the hoods made using Polyester or Vynil resins will warp in time. If you were after the bling look of carbon I dont think you did bad getting a carbon hood that looks good for $500 but you could have had the factory one laminated for less and there never would have been a fit or warp issue.

You and I both know I know nothing about carbon fiber.

You can see thru his hood, and I'm just going by what he said. Next time we are working on his car, I'll weigh the hood. It's a PW:JDM one, or he ordered it from them. For 350 dollars it fits decent enough that I'd use it on my car, and it doesn't look bad at all.

Dude if you're back in the area in 2 years when I get back I'll pay you good to make some carbon fibre stuff for my Del Sol race car. Most everything would be as light as possible, no heavy understructure and most likely held on with aircraft type cam locks or half turns.

I'll be out here for a few, and then off bouncing in some other direction most likely. Depends on where the industry takes me, and whether I actially make it into that industry.. Or graduate. Until then, hook up with tqueen, he'll make you some good stuff..

You know I'm partial to del sols though..
