GSR is a good motor for the price. No motor is really better than the other because they all have potential. Generally a 1.8L+ motor is a better platform to start with though.

this also depends on the donor car. To me certain setups feel better in certain cars. If you are serious look up lots of different cars with their setups and look at what they make and the driveability and so on.

Like mike said.

But really, the GSR is nothing more than an ITR "without" the weighted crank, the mild factory ported head & upgraded valve train, the slightly better cams, the better intake & exhaust manifolds, the higher compression pistons which are not boost friendly and of course, the higher price tag.
So for some people who want to build a motor, why buy an ITR over a GSR when most of the ITR's bling-bling mentioned above would be removed anyways to use something better...why pay for it?

Other people buy a GSR because they want something better than the “fall on your face” LS motor or the all famous, ultra-incredible, superduper, the mind warping of space and time that YOU all know deep down inside that you really want...the torqueless wonder we call the B16.

Does this help?

well if he's gonna do H2 or H4 racing the type-r motor would be the way to go, since the motor basically has to be stock

I have a DA I have a jdm b20 in it, I know a b20 isnt much but for $700 im happy. Its definitely a torquey little devil. The great thing about ls and b20 is they are cheap and you can always put a nice vtec head on them to make up for the lack of top end.

Just my .02
