actually nitrous acts to super cool the incoming charge, but once it enters the combustion chamber, the act of combustion cause the nitrous molecules and oxygen molecules to seperate. if youre running a wet kit, the extra fuel is supplied by a solenoid. if its dry the extra fuel comes from the injectors. the extra fuel, combined with the extra oxygen create the extra power. but, burning straight oxygen would prove to be too flammable and would burn the toughest forged piston. thats why the nitrous molecules act as a dillution.
