SOOooo my battery died today...(help)
to check the stator, unplug it from the reg/rec, start the bike, and put a voltmeter (on AC) across any combo of the 3 leads, you should have roughly the same power coming out of all the leads. also check (with the bike off) from the leads to ground, there should be no continuity between any of the 3 leads and ground. if it's fine, and still no charge, then the reg/rec is shot, or you have bad wiring. alot of times the connector at the reg/rec gets dirty, overheats, and melts. that's fairly easy to diagnose, b/c you'll have a hell of a time getting the melted connector off.
if you have to replace the stator, make sure you put it in the right way!! should have seen the stator i replaced today. SOMEONE did a number on that damn thing.

sorry to thread jack, but my battery also died and i have a 06 zx6r and i cant figure out how to get to the battery. I know you have to remove the seat, but i tried to figure out how to get the seat off but i couldnt. anybody know the trick?? also, when i get the seat off i know you have to remove the tank by removing the two bolts on the rear of the tank and it should come up. Is this how its done??

lift up the rear corners of the seat, there's 2 bolts holding the seat down.
shouldn't have to take the tank off to get to the battery. should be right under the front seat. haven't had the battery out of an 06 in a lil bit though, i don't remember exactly.
