Yes it is required. It is called the rear collision avoidance light. My integra failed because of that.

Ive shaved reverse lights and passed. Im not sure about the third brake light though.

Brian, why don't you just shave everything that isn't yellow?

ie. tail lights, wheels, brake scoops etc...

having no 3rd brake light seems like one of those things that cops could annoy/ticket you about if they noticed. I know when I'm out driving either of my sportscars, cops tend to give me extra attention, almost looking for something to bug me about. Maybe it's different in NoVa, but I wouldn't think it would be worth it.

by the way, didn't your car used to have a light kit of some sort instead of the oem popups?
