See...that's something I was considering too; something like a power surge. I can invest in a capacitor, I was looking to anyway. I was getting some dimming of the dash lights, but I put in a red top optima, and that solved all that. I never really have the amp near 3/4 of the way up anyway...it is really powerful. It's just one, power acoustik 1400 watt amp...with one of those "bass control knobs". I have the amp set at about 1/2, and the knob set at about 1/2...and the sub output level on the headunit at about 10 or 12 out of 15. Anyone know of any cheap capacitors around for sale? Aside from this...any other ideas?

Yeah...I'm gonna try new RCA's. I talked to a guy at Best Buy tonight, just to get yet another opinion on it, and he said it is def. either the cable, or the RCA port on the Head unit, or the amp. I'll try cable first, cause it's easiest, and cheapest. I normally don't trust BB employees, I go in and end up explaining things to them...but this guy was an installation tech. They ones on the floor don't know shit though.

I just put the LPF up a little, add about half bass boost, and turn the "level" up some. I know these don't sound very specific at all, but I don't have it in front of me to say where they're actually set. Any advice on how to actually set it up properly?
you said you have 2 dual coil kicker subs.. my guess is that you have either dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm.

with dual 4 your only possibilities for a final load would be 16 ohm, 4 ohm or 1 ohm

and with dual 2 your final load possibilities would be 8 ohm, 2 ohm, and 0.5 ohm

you cant either have 4 ohm or 2 ohm

gains are the input sensitivities read this/do it http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=143

edit btw.. capacitors are a waste of money

You're right...i wasn't even thinking before. this is sad too...I've only had them for a few months, and I forgot what they are, dual 2 or 4. I'll tear it all appart tomorrow, and look at everything, and replace the RCA's too. If that doesn't fix it, I'll just have to go from there...and I'd be out of ideas. Thanks for the help...and, why do you say capacitors are a waste?

Wow...interesting read. I never knew that they were that ineffective. I figured they stored a lot more powe than they do. Thanks for the info. What would you recomend then...as far as keeping your lights from dimming? Another battery would help I suppose...but most cars don't have the space for that. I'm not having a problem with dimming or anything, I'm just curious now.

Cool, thanks man...yet another interesting read. I have also noticed that I am getting a minor shock, just like a static electricity shock about 8 out of 10 times I get out of the car. I'll get out, and when I touch the metal on the car to shut the door, I get zapped. Anything with the amp that could cause this? And would doing everything in the "big 3" article help that? I've also got an old mustang I'm moving the battery to the trunk in, and I play to do the "big 3" to that too.
