Damn, not many DSMers on this thread.

Go with a 1G Talon or Eclipse. I bought my used 1G tsi for pretty cheap locally. For under 2000, I'm sure you can find one that runs, but probably totally screwed cosmetically.

They're fast as hell stock, easy to mod, and easy to find parts for.

FWD turbo dodge. One of the only few cars you can make run 12s on street tires for a little over a grand, if that. Hell, im gonna be lookin for one myself here in a few months hopefully.

TURBO FWD DODGE (preferably the omni, by far the lightest of the bunch)

i'd find a 95 camaro for a couple grand a throw some slicks on it with a 100 or 200 shot. thats what 700$ invested for 11's ??????

F a dsm or fwd car.....turbo upgrades and fuel upgrades cost in the 2-3 G's

They're not even close to my $2000 price range. If I was going to dump a load of money into a car @ the moment I wouldn't even consider a FWD car, but I'm looking for something relatively cheap to play (cost and insurance wise) around with before I graduate.

Thanks for the input so far.

Not really. The 240 and 280 Z's are easy to distinguish from each other. The size of the 280Z was over one foot longer and had a sportier look. The 240Z and the 260Z were almost identical.

The 240 and 260 used carburetors. The 280 and all later Z's were fuel injected. HP was about the same between all models except for the Turbo model 280ZX, which was available from 1979-1983.
