Apparently, that rule was at one track for insurance reasons.
NHRA is not implementing that rule anytime soon.

I myself don't want to fight climbing over the door bars, or trying to fight getting the baby seat past the cross bar when 3/4 of my driving is on the street.

Never said that. Said it was a PITA cause it wouldn't fit and allow a front passenger. They have been to 2 cruise-ins, just have to ride in the back. Have a new seat but haven't tried it yet.
