I agreed to do a clutch for a friend in his S2000 right! Wow... I am a dumbass! Who would have thought that you pretty much have to remove the entire engine to get the damn transmission out! This is by far the dumb fucking design that I think I have ever seen! I dont think that there is another car out there made now days that you have to pull the engine to get the transmission out. And yes..i know that you dont actually have to remove the engine. (you just have to remove the exhaust manifold, remove the A/C, the steering joint, alternator, power steering and drop the subframe to get to the top 2 bolts.) Piece of cake!
Well.. on another note.. has anybody ever tried breaking the motor mounts free and lifting the engine up and moving it forward about 4 or 5 inches? Anybody know these cars and have an idea if that would work? Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes it is a bitch of a job, but only because it's so time consuming. The actual work with the correct tools is easy. CoRy and I did mine in about 6 hours with a good lunch break. How long did it take you?
so has anybody ever tried lifting the motor? or have they just always gone with the dropping the subframe. The only reason I am suggesting it as an alternative is because you wouldn't have to remove as much stuff.
This S2k is turbo'd... so removing the manifold an shit might prove to be a little more difficult than a stock one.
Also, the motor mounts looks like they are really big (tall). Can they be removed and let the engine pivot? I have an engine lift and the car is about 20" off the ground.

Also, his exhaust doesn't look like it will be in the way. but I was looking at the starter. Does the top starter bolt actually go through to the trans or does it just bolt to the block. I have already taken the bottom one out.
up until this point.. I have not spent but maybe an hour tops. I have been looking around for an alternate way of doing it. I have already dropped the driveshaft, the rear trans mounts, shifter is dropped, all the bolts are out besides the top 2.

Yes the top starter bolt is very long and goes all the way through. Lots of extensions for this bolt and the top 2 transmission bolts make it very easy to remove both.
I don't know if anyone has found an easier way to do it b/c this follows the way Honda says to do it so people followed that and did the DIY write up. Search s2ki.com for any shortcuts.
Exhaust shouldn't get in the way.
