damn that sucks.. I know the whole, "if its not stock or doesn't resemble stock it's illegal" thing. I didn't think that HIDs would be something youd actually be ticketed for.

i haven't heard of anything stating that flat out if they are aftermarket then they are illegal. i however spoke with a state trooper and asked him and he said as long as they have some kind of DOT or SAE stamp on the bulb or the box then you should be find but also have to be aimed properly

this whole hid fad needs to go. its a like a fart can for the eyes. so many people dont seem to realize that it does not improve your vision at night at all unless they are in the proper fixture, and aimed. it just throws light everywhere and is dangerous to other drivers sometimes. if you notice on cars that it comes on factory its a perfectly straight line across the horizon, that rarely enters the windows of other cars unless they are right up on you.

1. came on the car when I bought it, don't really think they are a "fart can for the eyes", they actually look pretty damned good next to the yellowish color of non HID healights.

2. They seem to improve my sight quite a bit at night actually.

3. I've been in my friend's car and seen what they look like from an oncoming perspective, they are bright but deff. not swerve off the road "dangerously" bright, I think that's a bit of an exageration.

they are sometimes bright enough to be dangerous. especially if not aimed. sylvania says your car came with halogens. so your hids are aftermafket in a halogen fixture, making them illegal.

If you have had people flash their brights then there are even more people who just dealt with the harshness of your lights. Change them immediately, you are a danger to others on the road.

So I was just wondering what the laws were on HIDs in the area. anyone??
