Question for Sheriff Deputies
I forgot to mention.... one reckless was reduced, and I think the other fell through the cracks because I had a Washington state license and changed it 90min after I was convicted. And it's with the army, and I'm not going enlisted.
Becoming a sheriff sucks. You have to work in the jail. Inmates literaly throw shit at you, piss at you, spit at you.... It sucks. Imagine dealing with the shittiest scum on the earth all day long. It sucks. I almost took a job once doing this and I took a toar of the jail and yep, I am now in the IT field. Good luck! Before your so down on your self about not getting in, double check if it is up to expectations.

you can sign up for ride alongs at any police station i'm pretty sure. Just have to be over 18 and i'm sure the OP is. Just call the station and ask how.
just to clarify Portsmouth Sheriff Deputy IS NOT Law Enforcement. Deputies are "corrections", as mentioned above you will work only in a jail. You wont arrest criminals or do any "police work". You will work the floor where you have to serve the inmates their food and get them their showers(which also means listening to them bitch and complain about everything), you would work booking where the police drop off anyone arrested and you have to process them into the jail (searching people, putting them in holding cells), or you would be working the courts system. I've known multiple people who were Newport News Deputies and I almost took a job there myself.
I would only do this as a last resort. Concerning the trouble you got in at 16, were you actually convicted of the crime or did you do some community service and haveit "removed from your record"? Either way, If it's something you want to do just apply anyway, the Sheriff's office(atleast in Newport News) is always desperate for people.

The felony comment was directed towards his juvenile record. As a juvenile you can be charged with a felony but unless you are tried as an adult you cannot not be convicted of a felony.
Or maybe you were just pointing out that you had already pointed out that reckless is a misdeamenor, either way, it's Wednesday and it really needs to be Friday afternoon like now.
A felony is a charge that results in 1 year or more in jail if convicted. Missioners are criminal acts that can result in less than one year.
I forget how much the fine limits are....

wrong.. everything in the military is waiverable you just have to know how to get around certian things. it took me a little under a year to join the air force and got my reckless waived and and my 6 charges{2 were felonies reduced down to misdemeanors} waived. like I said there is a waiver for everything as for being a prison guard that up to you man like everyone said you probably be dealing with alot of crap
why would you ever want to work in a jail. i had to do a 30 day stint and trust me, those guys hate their jobs and the criminals don't make it any easier on them.
