This whole thread reminds me of a ricer pic I saw before, some mexican had like 15 different toggle switches dongled down below his steering wheel.

Putting a switch in line through the starter current isn't a good idea like Fabrik8 said, unless its specifically made for it. You can put a switch through other things where a simple toggle switch will function fine though. For instance, putting a switch before the 12V to the ignition box, you cut volts to the the entire ignition and it doesn't see the kind of current a starter connection would.

read the original post, the product in question is made specifically for the starter.

My point was actually that there already is a disconnect for the starter, which is the starter solenoid. That's what the MasterLock gadget does, but with extra bells and whistles like a remote. The same thing could be done with a hidden switch or an aux output from a car alarm. Just use a decent relay, not the cheap shit that car alarms come with. Order a brand-name Bosch, NAiS, Omron, etc., and pay the $8 to $20 from an electronics distributor (you'll pay that much at a store for a cheaper type). You don't want to be stranded on the side of the road because of a cheap relay on your fuel pump, ignition, etc. I've seen it happen, and it's probably a pain in the ass.

The Braille switch is very cool, but it looks too easy to bypass based on the way it appears to mount. Anything easy to install is easy to remove or easy to bypass.

id say a ninja hidden in your backseat is the best option available.

since smart car thieves could just tow your car anywhere and if the alarm or whatever is going off they will also disarm it for you if you ask. also whens the last time a tow truck driver has asked to see your registration for a call if not impounded or a police call.......

anyone can call a tow truck and anyone can say they lost their keys and anyone can steal anything if they want too.

kill switch is great, viper and lo jack are even better, removable steering wheel is very popular overseas. my 2 cents.

but if you really care get full coverage insurance with a rental car option as well as gap if needed.

With all the stolen car threads lately people should start garaging their cars instead of leaving them in places where they can be stolen.

Somehow that just makes sense to me.
