They won't pull you over, its really just a van with a bunch of wires leading to it, a sensor and a camera. Its sort of light a red light camera, it gets a reading and then takes a picture if your over and sends you the ticket. From there I have no idea how much it is, if its a fix it ticket, or what... but im sure its an unwanted pain for most people.

yea they have been popping up around woodbridge quite often....onramp from 234 to 95, road leading to the woodbridge campus location has them posted. Also the offramp from 95 to 123 have been spotted also...

Its obvious now, signs for surveying and a white beat up old van. I just turn my car off and coast through.

What they do is read the emissions off the car then take a picture of your license plate and send you a fix-it ticket in the mail and you have like 2 weeks to fix it.

I want to know how accurate a fucking van on the side of the road can be? How can they single out a single car of a group? It just doesn't make sense. I hope they only send them to people who's cars tags come up as being from emisssions required areas.

I mean yeah... the sniffer test for me has been actually stuck inside tip of my exhaust and then dyno'd at different speeds or w/e... can't see how a quick reading (adverage speed of like 30-40mph) by a probe 2-3ft from the car can be that great...

Who knows though... I figure just put it in neutral and go by it at 1k... can't be pushing out that much crap at that low of rpm... figure it would be defused by wind/speed/distance from exhaust...

Anyone in VA regardless of jurisdiction is subject to this. If you pass through an RSD (remote sensing device) test twice within 90 days and your car fails, they will notify you and it's the exact same process as the standard emission test.

96+ get an OBD2 and Dyno or Two Speed Idle. If you pass you pay nothing. If you fail you have 14 days to get it fixed or your fucked. $725 is the new waiver fee.

We've tested some cars for RSD that passed with PERFECT numbers. Cold engines=failure. Stupid DEQ. Thanks for wasting our time.
