Damn. My CRX broke down on 28 right near 66. It sat on the shoulder for over a week. After reading these horror stories I'm suprised Battlefield didn't take it.

Whoa, they didn't put an AWD car on a flatbed? I thought tow companies are supposed to run VIN's to check for the drivetrain type before taking a car.

They're not liable for the damage?

if memory serves, there was a website about suing one of these towing companies. when I lived at Dulles Green apartments, they were the towing company and somebody handed out fliers. I can't remember the name of the site, but it was like suebattlefieldtowing or something like that. I tried to google it but found nada. I'm wondering if its been taken down or maybe a different tow company. BUT it was a good resource because it laid down the law and how to sue them. A friend of mine got towed and they didn't give a reciept. And thats against the law apparently.

henrys towing was the same way here in my parking lot. they took two of my cars one night both with my stickers on the window in the right place.... one of which being my transam.... i did the dance with them and paid for one of my cars. the apt complaex made them bring back the other.....

the next night the same guy tried to tow the car again.....called the cops, strapped my side arm to my hip and i went outside.talked with him for a sec, asked him why he was towing the car. he made something up of course, asked me if i intended to shoot him. i said no, this is for my protection in case he tried to do something unlawful to me since he was stealing my car. cops came and i had him arrested for attempted vehicle theft. his tow truck was towed to impound as well..

EDIT: i remember his excuse now.... its because my car had a cover on it..... this is something i made sure to have a conversation with the apt complex manager and the manager at henry's about. i had an arrangement with both the managers that if anyone wanted to loko at my parking sticker. they had permission to lift my cover and look at my winshield.

When we (the wife and I) first moved here we lived at Chase Arbor in Virginia Beach, and I know it's obviously a different company being that you're in NOVA, but their towing company down here towed my car 3 times and I got it back without paying all 3 times because I told them I had a parking pass, I was legally in my spot, and I'd need to see video proof of me parked in an illegal spot before I'd give them money for my car back. All 3 times, the guy "was new and forgot to videotape" so I got my car back without having to pay. He made it a point every time though to say "You still were in the wrong, you just got lucky because I'm new and forgot to turn the camera on".

I'm not sure if there are similar policies elsewhere but I'd demand to see proof.

I agree that generally the court would probably side with the towing company, but that doesn't make them untouchable. You just need to decide whether or not the time, effort, and money you're going to spend to obtain justice is even worth it. You'll probably spend a lot more than you get back
