ITR pistons in a b16

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
B-series pistons can be used in any B-series block, EXCEPT the B20-CRV block.
(the CRV-B20 block uses a wider piston)
All US B16A engines are equipped with the PR3 B16A piston. Which yeilds a 10.2 compression ratio. All JDM B16A's are equipped with the P30 B16A piston which yeilds a 10.4 compression ratio. That's .2 more points over the US piston. The way you can tell apart each B16A piston from each other, is by the part number stamped on the top-side of the piston.

Approximate Compression Ratios
(when using 'R' Pistons in B-series engine(s)):
• Stock B16B CR=10:8
• B16B pistons in B16A CR=11:1ish
• B16B pistons in B17A CR=11.4ish
• B16B pistons in B18C w/GSR head CR=11.8 or more
• B16B pistons in B18C w/ITR or B16A head CR=11.6 or more
• B16B pistons in yo ass CR=15:1...too high !!!
• P73 US pistons in B16A CR=10.4ish
• P73 US pistons in B17A CR=10.6ish
• P73 US pistons in B18C w/GSR head CR=10.8-9ish
• P73 US pistons in B18C w/ITR or B16A head CR=10.6
• P73 JDM pistons in B16A CR=10.6-7ish
• P73 JDM pistons in B17A CR=10.8ish
• P73 JDM pistons in B18C w/GSR head CR=11.3-4ish
• P73 JDM pistons in B18C w/ITR or B16A head CR=11.1

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
• P72-00 = JDM B18C Piston, CR=10:6
P73-00 = JDM ITR piston, CR=11:1
• P73-A0 = US ITR piston, CR=10:6

To the op:
You have a B16 which has no torque whatsoever. I suggest if ur going to rebuild it for a budget all motor application get JDM ITR pistons. Or CTR pistons (which will require resizing of the rods to fit the piston @ a machime shop.) RS machine makes these replica pistons for a resonable price or search around other forums in the fs section. I also suggest going w/ CTR ot ITR cams. But foreal, IMO in order for me to be happy w/ an all motor B16 it has to be heavily modified. These motors are happiest in the high RPM range that's just the way Honda designed them. Some good cams will really bring it to life. If your looking fo torque buy a B20 bottom end & slap ur head on it. RS machine also has pistons for that motor.
I have only personally been happy w/ a boosted B16. But don't get me wrong the B16 is an exellent motor that has plenty of potential. It was the 1st DOHC VTEC motor debuting in the 1989.5 JDM Integra XSI.
But either way do your research. Might want to try www.hond-tech.com
www.hondaswap.com
For starters these topics have been covered to death. Google is also a valuable tool
Good luck.

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
Might also want to consider there are other factors that can be taken into account to gain a higher compresion ratio.
Not just swapping pistons which is a great way to do it, but its not the only way.

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
i just built my b16 head last nite it has all blox internals with stage 3 cams will my valves smack my pistons if i use the stock b16 pistons i no ishudnt do that but thats howit is for now but will they smack

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
You should be fine. So the bottom end is going to be a OEM rebuild w/ a built head? What ru gonna get tuned on? What ecu & program? Also what is this going inside of?

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
yes correct i wanna set the cams on stock time and run stock my buddy has a fully built ctr block wit built b20 head wit stage 2 cams and he runs it on stock timing and it dips but i do have hondata s200 for later and its in a eg

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
"a fully built ctr block wit built b20 head" ??
Why wouldn't you tune the shit out of it if you have a S200?
You will get the most out of your setup by getting it tuned.
Then when u add parts get it retuned.

Re: ITR pistons in a b16
why would you put a fully built ctr block on a b20 head? makes no sense to me.......sure ya dont mean fully built ctr head on a b20 block? aka b20vtec?
