I checked the wheel alignment, it's good. The slack was right at 20mm when I tightened it, and now it's almost at 28. Still within specs, but noticeably more slack than it was.

I will call Cycle Gear for a price, I've also checked out sportbike solutions.com and the stock replacement set is $172.76.
ok i understand since the manual recommends that you replace the chain and sprocket together.

You need to measure the the chain 20-pitch length. It's on the same page of the manual. This is the measurement that will ultimately determine if your chain needs replacement.

Also, since the manual says to tighten chain to 20-30mm, and you tightened it to 20mm, and it loosened to 28mm, maybe it loosened because your are at the tightest accepted value?

Also, did you perform the chain tightening on a stand or while the bike was leaning on the kick stand? the manual recommends that latter.

But I am looking at a 09 R1, which is supposed have corrected this issue.

I did it on the kick stand, as recommended.

After measuring the 20 pitch length, it's at 12.5, which is just within specs. Since it's within specs for slack and length, I will go ahead and order the chain and sprocket set, but I guess it's not an immediate need.

Anyone want to help me put on a chain and sprockets?

Maybe we can have a "maintenance meet"? Chains, oil changes, etc?

LoL, I don't have a large garage, but I've got a huge (5 car) driveway. I can just park the cars in the street. I'll be ordering a new chain/sprocket for the CBR tonight or tomorrow.

chain is prob just streching out esp if your riding hard(wheelies and alot of hard acceleration) just spend some money and get a good chain and keep it clean and oiled

stock chains dont last long under rough conditions
