Would like to know as well as mine has done this on cam gear side both intake and exhaust.
As well as another motor ive disassembled that was in a previous built car was scarred as well.

the reason why i say the timing belt was too tight is because the wear on the cam/head is only on the cam gear side, and i have experienced this before but on a 4age.
i heard a high pitched metal squeeking sound comming from the head and said "what the heylll dawwgg" so i checked and that my timing belt was too tight. loosened it and the squeeking went away.
but what do i know, im just jdm monkey...

I don't buy that at all. Making the belt too tight doesn't affect the bearing clearances (so there should have been oil in the journals), and the forces on the cams when the engine changes speed are much higher than an overtightened belt. I think you have an oiling problem caused by something else.
