ok well, if you people don't like "camry powered" them just call it "lexus powered". ok well so the stock engine is good, i have heard about heads blowing out and shit, but either way, a 6 cylinder will always be able to get more power than a 4 if you maxed out both and anyway i am going to do some internals so hopefully i can get an easy 350 hp. but the point is, is that you may get 500hp out of the 4, but thats not 500ft/lb also that just horse and probably like 400 to 450? and at higher rpms.
the point of the v6 is low end torque. and for anyone who knows anything about drag racing, torque wins drag races. 1 second at the launch is 2 seconds at the end, thats why 60ft times are so important. and yes i know with a lot of torque comes traction problems, but come on now.... mid engine rwd, what better for traction? and don't say awd cause thats rubbish(i have a wrx now...so i DO know what i am talking about). if i get a good slick and soften the suspension a bit, there will be no problem putting the power to road. i mean if i can get 350 hp then i will have close to 400ft/lb or more.
ok for those of you that are wondering why i want the turbo mr2 well because from 93 and up the rear end was strengthened. also the turbo has upgraded breaks, all around suspension. also the whole drive train is upgraded and according to some articles it can put 600hp to the ground. also all the wiring, and radiator and all the little things are upgraded in the turbo version. thats why. its cheaper to get a turbo mr2 than a none turbo and have to upgrade the suspension, rearend/drivetrain, radiator, and figure out all the wiring.
thank you for all the help....keep it coming....i still needs sites and stuff to look at. help me out please. thanks you

Go to http://board.mr2faq.com , and become a member. Once you are on the MR2 forums, look for the "hybrid" MKII forum. Look up "overboostvr4". He has a SC V6 MKII that is actually working right now. The SCC article glazes over the fact that the car was not completed, and the entire setup is a big mess.
I would also suggest buying that copy of SCC in which they document the swap.
That assumes you are going to do the swap yourself. If you are going to have someone do it, either Brad or Alamo in Texas can do it for you.
I can also do the swap, but do not have the proper facilities to get it done PROPERLY (I will NOT do a hack job) in the Hampton Roads area. I will in the near future, but that is a story for another day.
I will be the first to admit that a SC V6 is VERY enjoyable to drive in comparison to the average semi-modified MR2. An extensively modified MR2 with proper tuning can be MUCH more fun to drive though. Those that scoff at a 500rwhp 3S-GTE in a mid-engined car have no idea what they are missing out on.

Weight of the car and area under the torque curve in the portions of the rpm band that you are in after the shift until you shift to the next gear multiplied by the gear ratio of each gear you are in multiplied by the final drive ratio is what defines how well the car accelerates, considering the traction you have available. Remember, it's always better to make torque at higher rpms so that you can take advantage of gearing.
If you launch at 6000rpm and shift at 8000, you will never be in a portion of the rpm band in which the V6 powerband would be superior. On my previous setup, I was hitting consistent 1.6 60 foot times. You don't need the V6 for a good launch.

Low end torque DOES make the car easier to drive around the road course, and is especially helpful to the novice road course driver. It also makes driving up mountain roads that much more fun for ANY driver!
well i already have the article, and i have read it, but i don't remember them saying to much about it being not complete, but then again i don't remember them saying it is complete.
i want to do it myself, but only problem is i don't have a lift, and supposedly you have to put it in from the bottom. but there are ways to solve that problem.
i live in NY...so i don't know how i could get it to you, if you could do it. but i figure if i can just get someone near me to put the engine in and do the extra engine mount needed then i can just have it flat bedded back and do all the wiring and such myself.
i just recently thought of the idea and so this is my homework time. but i did go to that forum but not to the "hybrid" section. i will look into. thank you very much. any more info would be great.
the article says its pretty simple, except for the wiring but thats not a big deal...its just takes time and i have some really good help for the wiring. only other problem would be the extra engine mount, but thats not a big deal either...it can be done. and if i find a 1MZ out of a rare manual camry then the wiring will be cake as well. ok well thank you and the more info the better. thanks

.....thats not true at a certain point torque matters. yes of course the gearing and such matters, but when it comes down to it...if you get some really sticky tires you can launch harder with more torque. if not funny cars and such wouldn't have the 5000ft/lb they have...why not just gear it for more hp and less torque. torque matters and is more fun, and ...screwing around on the high way or at a roll....torque helps. plus you don't have to shift a million times.
so i guess my question is what tranny are you gonna run in this crazy-ass idea? cause all the ones that come to my mind do not have way to transfer the power between the wheels.....sounds like one wheels wonder to me...
my opinion, if you wanna waste your time and money on it go ahead...but make sure you rebiuld that 1mzfe or whatever so you never have to pull it again from the good ole' v-6 yota sludging.

and again, best of luck with everything. i would really reccomend that you do more research. the differences between the 91-92 and 93+ turbos are minimal. the best part is the brakes, the rest of what you said is not necassaraly true. the suspension is not strengthened. pretty much all that was done was a lengthening of the controll arms to prevent as much toeing out during cornering. i find that if you know how to drive it, the 91-92 suspension is much more nimble. the radiator is such are all the same.
