The point is you wont have a contract or you can unlock it and use it on tmobile. Im not sure what point your missing so I put the important points in bold. This is an excellent price and fair.

actually i have an i phone plan and i broke my iphone and its 299$ to buy another one since i'm not eligible for an upgrade, so in this case it would be cheaper for me to buy this one. the 99$ deal is only if your eligible or if you start a new plan..
