the only important 'lingo' comes from actually knowing the technical aspects of cars, and not just what's 'hip' these days. i'd much rather prefer you knew what irs was as opposed to what vtec stood for, and that only comes with experience.

if you are seriously interested in cars, pick up a couple 'reputable' magazines- preferably car and driver/road & track, but even super street or import tuner can hold some value; stay away from mini trucking or audio mags (unless that's your thing... then whatever. won't learn much about cars in general though). check out sites like jalopnik, or even top gear has a lot of interesting info (fantastic show, too btw). lurk around the boards, ask questions, be prepared for asshole responses from idiots who went through the exact same phase you did but are now too cool to admit it- and even worse, idiots who spread misinformation but preach their stupidity like the gospel. a single thread isn't going to fill you in on all you need to know... i've been into cars for going on two decades now and if i've learned anything it's that i'll very likely never know it all.

one thing that will definitely ruin your experience, on here and in life in general, is if you ever get to a point where you act like you know what you're talking about and really don't. as long as you're genuine, you will catch on.
