do not disgrace the 4G63 by saying it is a chrysler product.....

that is almost as bad as saying that the oh so famous 3.0 sohc caravan/daytona/stealth/everyothershitcanproducedunderleeiococa engine...was Mitsu!

shudder....

I would highly recommend against doing business with Professional Engines in Christiansburg. I had my cylinder head "ported" and valvetrain components installed by Professional Engines. I believe I spoke with a man named Adam, but I can't be sure. I don't think it was Terry.

Regardless, they said that it would be done in a very short amount of time: "only a couple days." After two weeks of absolutely no contact, I receive a phone call from a man asking "where are the keepers? I cannot find them in your box of valvetrain components." I realize that they have been blowing me off for the past couple weeks, so I ask him what's been going on and he responds (I quote):

We've been very busy lately and I put your stuff on the back burner.
So he admitted to me that I was the least important job in his shop and stated that he had put my work on hold until he was "less busy." After receiving my cylinder head a week later, I found a horrible porting job.

Cylinder four could almost pass off as if it were ported by a four year old. Cylinder three looks a bit worse, cylinder two looks even worse, and cylinder one looks as if he ported it with his tongue.

So I'm assuming he got pretty lazy between ports, and decided to do a shittier and shittier job on each one. He didn't even bother to get deep into the runners, and I'm not even sure he fucking matched the port openings with the valves.

Don't go with Professional Engines, lest you be butt raped.

Chris

i have yet to find a decent machine shop in a 200 mile radius....we send off about three sets of heads a month...and no matter where we send them.....we have had problems. Beavers and Pro Engines were the two that had the most problems, and Terry Walters main drawback was the lond turnaround time. decent "stock" work is achieved with Fisher Auto Parts in house machine work, however we have had issues with them too...

giving me a reason to make bossman buy a KwikWay and a nice milling machine, with a rotary broach....

but, its like all things. there will be problems if you do not SPECIFY EXACTLY what you want, and it is up to YOU to make sure that the work is done right. ie..if it aint right to start with...DONT LET IT GO!
make it be done right....or find someone else that will. however...i have yet to find a good machine shop that will have good turn around times....

eclipsorgreen - sucks about your trouble with Adam, I've had my head rebuilt by him twice for various reasons and he has always had it done sooner, better, and cheaper than I expected.
Not really sure how you expected him to put the valves back in w/o keepers...?
Looks like a nice project you have going though...I especially like the hp and 1/4 mile predictions on your web site, we all love to bench race...

Not saying it was a chrysler motor, not saying it is a mitsubishi motor. It's a dsm motor... we'll leave it at that. I was only emplying that blackdog worked on chryslers and eagle was owned by chrysler.

Thanks for all the input on pro engines too... makes me kind of weary about it.. but if I am correct marshall drives a 1g awd, right? I think I have heard about it before and heard some pretty impressive things from day and a few other people.

If it's any consolation, Adam just finished boring/honing my block and did a great job. I went .5mm over...

looks like you have had good luck from them.....i personally didnt about two years ago....some headwork was not performed that was requested....and there was some cust service issues that were there too. that was from a set of heads off of a 3.8 ford....we never dealt with them again. of course....i am sure things have changed....as indicated by good words from others.

I'll definately check them out. I'll just try to find someone who knows them to go down there with me to talk to them. That way there is a little bit of a liability issue on them to do a good job.
