Seriously though to the original poster. Get an intake, youll notice throttle response and maybe slight top end power.. But the sound will make up for the price, and at least youll feel faster.. (me 15.9 stock / 15.4 with intake) Probably coulda done better, but I always got screwed and got like 2 runs in each time up at vmp.

No offense but a 15.9 is god awful slow for a spec. Most people run 15-15.3 stock. But i noticed 04's seem quicker than the 02-03's. But if your a good driver a 04 spec could probably break in 14.8-14.9 range.

Yeah they are nice cars, I used to have a 02 GXE before my Stang. I was going to buy a 04 Spec with the Brembo pkg. but it would have cost me $18-19k where I got my 03 GT premium for $18k which was a demo with 3800 miles on it and originally had a sticker of just over $26k.

The 03 and 04's have a different tranny with longer first and second gears, that's it. As far as being any faster they aren't. The 04's do have a different knock sensor that's not as sensative, so tell your cousin to ground his knock sensor and then race again.

Don't forget about driver skill either.

i had a base ser 5 speed, had only had the car 3 months and it was my first 5 speed car, but i think it was a dud from the factory.

If i can run a 14.7 in a gti with only an intake i cant be that bad right?

I thought you had a Spec running those times, I didn't realize it was the 5 spd. SE-R.

Yeah a trap of 84-87 is a little slow, shouldv'e been 88-89 range on the 5 spd. Even SE 2.0's stock run about a 15.7-16 at around 84-86
