Bunch of shit..
1) all Three of the clubs in the area do points series with trophies. Mine (TSCC) and BCC both do winter 4 series and ODR SCCA does April - Nov series.
On top of that there is the Team Challenge run in conjunction with ODR.
On a regional level, there really isn't anything to win expect bragging rights
Respect comes in many different ways beyond just being fast. Don't listen to the people that say being fast will get you respect because it's bull shit. There are a few fast people I would love nothing more then to shove my foot up their ass.
2) AWD DSM's are interesting cars to autocross. Out of the box they are okay, but they have their issues depending on what year you have and what modifications you've done. They push like pigs in shit stock, but that can be overcome. With that being said, in a AWD DSM Smoothness pays big dividends because of boost and push. It can be fixed though, mine is very tail happy now almost to the point where it looks like a mustang. I'm still working on it, made some major changes.
Since you own a 2G, check out Dennis Grant's page, http://autocross.dsm.org
The best thing to do is come out and drive. It's a whopping $20. You don't need any thing beyond what your car would need to pass VA State Instpection (i.e. seat belts, battery tie down, all your lug nuts, etc). Don't worry, we don't look at things like cats, mufflers, etc. Mine hasen't had a cat on it in almost a decade
Um, I think that's it.

hAPpY!?
I would also suggest bringing sunblock, raingear, condoms, money, lug wrench, and a tire pressure gauge. Additionally, clean all the shit out of your car and wash the windows so you can see where the hell you are going. If you normally wear glasses, they might help too. Bring sunglasses just in case, it always get's sunny when you forget them.
