your partially correct, that would be what you call a 'high side' where the bike is sliding and then suddently regains traction tossing you off the bike

i just slide it around like CBR600 said in the dirt, don't have the balls to do it on pavement, but some of my "stunna" friends can do a full 180 its pretty bad ass... but as long as you keep the rear wheel sliding and you lean the bike over really far you can just spin it around w/ out getting pitched off, most guys i see actually use their foot too to hold the bike up, common stuff if you've ridden dirt, just on a heavier bike w/ a little more grip... but if you were to stand it up or suddenly let off the brake then your right, the rear wheel would regain traction and toss you off

but yea practicing lock ups is a good idea in a parking lot so when/if it doesn't happen you can stay on the brakes and not freak out and let off of them... in an emergency stop you should be using way more front brake than rear, some people don't even use the rear at all, i do though b/c just in case i was to lock the front through some oil or something i want to still have some brake power coming from the rear

also practice hard stops and find out how hard you can get on the front brake with out starting to lock it up or doing an endo, a big newbie mistake is freaking out and locking up the front wheel which will put you on the ground instantaneously
Yeah, Tiki said it could have been oil on the road too. And my last tire had to have been low on air, because as soon as i got on the new one, i felt like i was actually sitting higher in the back.

I got used to using both brakes (thats what they say get in the habit of doing in the rider course) because i dont want to end up doing an endo, but i really didnt feel as though i was pressing the rear brake so hard as to lock it up.

And is the tire going to be slippery going through turns if since i assume the compound covers the complete curve of the tire?

EDIT ** Thanks for the clarification**

the compund is all over the tire... i usually wash my tires when they are new, soap, water, and a mitt will get almost all of it off, then just gradually lean the bike over further and faster for the first hundred miles or so

This thread brought a bunch of good info out!!!!!!!!!!

Always be careful on new tires, like Del said. They're worse than bald tires in my humble opinion!!!!!!!!! I've used sand paper before to scuff up new tires. Works like a charm!!!

As for rear brake usage; another good discussion. I rarely use it. No real need on the road in normal riding conditions in my opinion. Some swear by it and some never use it.

Like Del said; in an emergency you should be on the front as hard as you can without bringing the rear up. Another good thing to practice in a parking lot. get the feel for how hard you can mash on the front brake while keeping your rear tire planted. You'll be surprised by how much it takes to actually get the rear up.

Then practice locking up the rear at the same time you're mashing on that front and you'll be able to stop on a dime!!!!! (locking up the rear is actually a plus in emergency braking conditions in dry weather if you can keep the bike in line and stable)

As for the "I'm cool, look at me skid my rear tire around" thingy........I do it all the time on pavement. Another reason why I'm constantly needing new rear tires. Just put that left foot out there just in case. The only bad thing is that you can only skid to the left....................

Not necessarily. Your last tire might have had a lower profile. Meaning the height of the center of the tire. I went from shitty Dunlops to Pirelli Supercorsa's. Trust me; I felt like I could turn on a dime. The profile change of the tires made it feel like I was riding a new bike!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck me, i found out what the problem was. Well i said the brake felt funny when i pushed it. My dumbass put the tire on and didnt get the brake disc between the brake pads, i merely pushed the pads over. So the clasp had been grinding on the disc all this time

God i feel like such an idiot. I need new brake pads, and i probably need a new disc since its been scratched to hell, how much u think those will run me?

The rotor and the disc are the same thing right. Im checkin a yamaha parts place now, and the picture of what im talking about is the rear brake disc, i just want to see if were on the same page. Learnin as i go.

The oem one looks to cost $86 online. If i have to replace the caliper assembly, which i dont think should have to, then it will run me 200 bucks for that.
