Neon lights are illegal not because of the color or the extra lighting. they are illegal because they are not DOT or SAE approved. And they are illegal if they are installed on any public highway. so even if they are off you can get a ticket. sitting in a parking lot you are legal. however the second you hit the road you can get a ticket.

yea i was just wondering, cause like neons in a car is like a TV, both glow in a sense u know, and both can be seen by other people. The car that got a ticket was a friggin mini van...with neons around his lisense plate, rims, and a fart can, talk about whoa.

You can get a ticket for a TV in your car too if it's in view of the driver.

i know, i meant like TVs can be seen by other people in other cars kinda like a distraction, which is a reason im assuming neons are illegal while moving.

Yeah I think that's part of the reason. But if that's the case, then I guess we can't have nice cars on the road because it's a distraction. Or I guess women have to cover up from head to toe because they're a distraction. I feel that if you wreck because you were distracted from paying attention to the road, that's your own dumbass fault.

if your car is already extremely slow (i.e. my taurus) then they're fine. it actually looked kinda pimp, until you saw 8 million wires under the dash. (again my taurus)
