Help With VA Inspection
Well many states have state inspections, not just VA. Then again its not something new. They are just punishing the state inspectors more and cracking down on them for putting a sticker on a car thats far from safe or legal.
it could be worse, i mean, up north in ohio there are jalopies readily driving down the road, some of which you'd be surprised that would be running, especially without pieces falling off the thing. these "vehicles" can be on hte road because there isnt a safety inspection order in place like here.
some of the restrictions are a pain, and shouldnt matter as much, if at all, but i'd rather deal with this than the jalopies dropping parts going down the road or smoking horrible bad in front of me.
just my .02 cents

i get 15 bucks for a VA state inspection, as mandated by law. according to VASP, it is supposed to take 28 minutes to perform a state inspection. at that rate, if you are cookin ass writing the sticker (takes me five min. per to do one, and be legible) you can do two an hour.
going by that, i get 30 bucks an hour to do inspections. now...how many shops do you know of that are 30/hr on their labor rate? i am in BFE, and my shops rate is 40/hr going up soon. in central, i think the normal rate is 55-75/hr.
Not to mention the fact that every station is required to have about 2000 dollars worth of equipment to check cars appropriately (my headlight aligner was a 2500 dollar unit, not to mention the half hour a week i spend calibrating it)
as for the comment about VA generating revenue shittily, i think you need to do some research. the 15 bucks you pay to get an inspection is to the shop for compensation for doing it, of that, most shops have about a dollar in supplies (we have to buy the stickers, inserts, and rejection slips) all depending on the amount of volume they do. there are about 15 troopers in the state that do nothing but go to each and every station making sure EVERYthing is documented (every single sticker i get in has to be accounted for every quarter, i spend about two hours doing inventory every three months)
in all honesty, they should allow the fee to be increased, and the standards be stricter.
is one of the best ways of putting it, i think i have said it that way myself several times. go to TN, NC, SC and see some of the pieces of shit on the road there, it makes me want to get off the road sometimes.
its not a "sticker" like most people think, its there for a reason, and they are enforcing the shit out of it now.

I didnt pass because I was too low one time. That isnt harming anyone it's making my car turn better. Seen some fail for for a bad tires, that i understand. Also lights, smoking, etc are good. But my wipers on my car.. come on, I never use them in the 1st place. No need to fail someone for that. Some of the crap they fail I agree with but some of it is just total shit.

there is no height requirement for inspection....only the way its done. your car can turn better? how so with reduced suspension travel? (thats the way to reject for a shittily lowered car, if its done incorrectly)
so you are telling me i should pass every car that comes in with wiper blades that are torn and not working? i guess the rest of us must not have that magic wet vision you must have to be able to see out of a windshield with rain on it.

there are some things that are kinda bullshit, i agree, but the bottom line is that it has to be enforced. i do NOT want to have a discussion with my trooper or his captain that is not a good one....they make baby jesus cry if that happens.
not to jack the thread, but I'm curious about my car passing. One of my headlights has cracked glass. They're projection lights, and the outer perimeter of the glass is cracking. Will that be a hit on inspection ?
