That picture was taken the day we set the world standing mile record at 283mph with a twin turbo ford GT.
To me, the shade means nothing but having a recently landed astronaut's plane and the now removed space shuttle "de-mating rig" in the background is pretty significant.

That's the shadow of a really tall steel pavilion, it looks like a giant carport. I've stood where that picture was taken.
