Car was originally designed for landspeed racing and came within 1mph of the record for the F/PS (under 3000cc stock body, forced induction class). However the racing body changed the rules to eliminate ragtops, so it was turned into a time attack car.

[edit] I just checked out the article. How much do those damn things weight? That's about the same speed as my truck... stock.. on 87 octane.

They are heavy as shit. But a truck that isnt built for straight line speed, but still runs a 14.1 1/4 mile is very impressive. That thing is probably a monster on trails, dunes, hills etc.
