I've had 3 Camaro's all with t tops. I've never had any issues with my tops leaking and I've had the car almost 4 years now. The only one that I had issues with was my 1982 Z, granted the car was 15 years old at the time...

ive never had a problem with the t-tops on either of my camaros. i had a 97 z28 and now have a 99 ss. really dont use the t-tops that much, but its nice when i do. i guess its just a preference thing. if he wants them, he will regret no getting them.

I am not sure how much more rigid they are since all of the 4th gens are "t-top" cars from the get go. Only difference is that the hard top cars keep that thin sheet of composite on the roof, and it's pretty flimsy.

i recall something about a 99 SS LS1s being best bang for the buck on SCC. Something was designed better for tuners and the ECU under powered it leading ppl to think it was a weaker motor.

The motors were underrated from GM.
