i would lean towards chevy or gm... friend has a 96 tahoe that he uses for everything and that thing has been through hell and still runs fine.

WJs (big round-assed Grand Cherokees like the one in that picture, some people call 'em "washtubs") are considered crap. Their biggest issues come from the electrical shit they put in there that fries itself after a few years.

ZJs are the older slant-nose Grand Cherokees and are better than they newer plastic shit. Especially the '98 5.9L Limited monster.

I had a grand cherokee and now i have a cherokee. the GC (zj) had alot more creature comforts and was smoother all around but that 5.2 v8 fuckin sucked dick. I'll only own a jeep it if has their 4.0 in it from now on, i love this motor and cna't beat getting 23mpg's on the highway

I took my cherokee out in the 2 big 2ft snows we had here in nova and only got it stuck once total in a 4ft snow drift. that was at stock height n all.

Yeah... its hard to grenade that 4.0L and its powertrain. About the best fuking motors Chrysler had ever built.

Too bad they are complete dumbasses and ditched it all.

If you must have one of those unibody P.O.S.'s get the older ZJ with the 4.0. The 5.2 and 5.9 are Dodge engines while the 4.0 has it's roots in AMC's old 4.2 L straight six. Good luck with the transmission though as they are also dodge products and are known to be an issue.

Edit: the grand cherokees also have the BS aluminum center section dana 44 rear axle which is known to be a problem.
