Listen to this man, my girlfriend has about the same set up and her jeep blows on gas milage, doesn't want to go up hills, and 5th gear is the most useless thing unless your planted to the floor trying to maintain 65ish.

I know buying a 4cyl isnt the ideal thing to do but a 97 TJ with only 69,000 miles on it when i bought it for 4000$ was just too good to pass up. How much is regearing really going to help the power output or the actual feel of having power? And what should i regear to? Right now it feels extreamly underpowered but i assume thats just because of the crappy 2.5l under the hood
I see what your goin for. My suggestion is go with a 2" budget boost (a suspension lift consisting of 2" coil spacers and new shocks) which will only run you $240 from a place like rubiconexpress.com, and is much better than a goofy body lift. With that you can fit 32s no problem and your stock 4.11 gears will still be somewhat bearable. That's plenty fine for messin around in a little mud, goin on the beach, or goin on some scenic trails up in northern VA.
As far as regearing, people say you should be running 4.56s with 32s and 4.88s with 33s but its really up to you. I still have my 4.11s with my 33s but thats only because I''m gettin ready to swap axles and no use puttin money into something thats going to get trashed. They're only ever a problem when driving on the highway. On the rocks in 4-low, my Jeep drives like a champ doing anything the guys with the 6 cylinders do. If you can deal with it, leave it alone, if it becomes a problem, swap the gears out. You can do little things like intake and exhaust, and then mods get more out-there like swapping throttle bodies, electric fans, and reprogrammed chips. I even got plans on boosting mine this summer but thats another discussion.

For 4cylinder stuff, check this place out: http://www.4bangerjp.com/forums/

ok so what it sounds like everyone is saying is go for the RE BB and 32's and i am planning to run this thing on the highways, not often but i hate the feeling of not being able to go over 65, so regear to 4.56s?

Go ahead and lift it and put on the tires. Drive it around for a while and see how it feels. If it continues to bother you, and you plan on keeping that setup for a long time, go ahead and regear(putting in gears is quite a bit of change to drop unless you know someone). It will still go plenty fast with the stock gears. I can take mine past 70, it doesn't feel very safe, but it will do it. It just requires some finesse and a lot of gas. Its a jeep though, not a sport compact. Going slow comes with owning one, and has kept me out of plenty tickets

The 4 wheeling adventures I go on seem to be Wrangler friendly. Will keep you in tune.
