ATTN V8 GUYS!!! I'de like a little information on LT-1's
Just go with a carbed SBC. Its easier than any other swap, and you can make as much power as an LS1 with one, not to mention it has the largest aftermarket of parts of any engine ever produced...EVER.
the camaros, vettes, firebirds all have aluminum heads, the only ones that got the cast heads are buicks caprices and impalas etc..

mild cam: depends, around 250-300... gains depend on tuning, but 40+ with a stock tune is easy. don't go mild though, you will probably regret it. LT1 cam installs hurt.
the LT1 is iron block and iron heads, and i personally know a couple guys from home pushing 100 shots day in and day out.
LT1s are super cheap now since they're all around 10 years old. auto trader has tons of private party sales, and there are a few up on EFA right now. i believe the URL is www.fbodycentral.com then navigate to the "for sale" section.

383 LT1 shortblock minus the cam.
-Lunati crank(about $1500).
-Eagle H beams (about $600).
-Forged pistons(don't remember what i paid off the top of my head but i have the reciets).
-block half filled(still cools fine on the street but alot stronger)
-block zero decked
-bored 40 over
-splayed miloden main caps installed($200)
-all arp studs bolts
-all new gaskets, bearings etc.
-lifter vally breathers installed
-machine work, trial fitting parts, boring, honing, align boring/honing, clearancing block, etc. (around $2000 worth of work..i can break it down if you need)
-overall i would say i have about $7,000 in rotating assembly and block as it sits today. Make me a reasonable offer. $4,000 obo?

if youre interested, i am planning on parting my entire setup and selling the car as a rolling chassis very soon. im the guy smooshie butt was talking about that made 410rwhp naturally aspirated out of a stock block LT1 not spinning past 6,000rpms with a cam that makes power to 7,000. this would be an opportunity for you to get a dyno tuned motor set for a fraction of the cost it took to build. if youre interested, feel free to contact me when you are serious and have the cash to do this.

no offense but thats the thing with v8's. THere are sooo many different avenues to travel to accoplish the same thing (more hp). I am not very knowledge able when it coem s to these thigns to even know what I want.
First I was looking at a stock LT1 then i was swayed to a stock LS1.
(beleive me when i say I am not modding an engine, i'll take it if its already done, if not fuck it)
Then i see a modded LS1 with a Z06 cam then modded LT1 with ported heads and a nice cam....geez. NOw i see why a good v8 can cost thousands.
I'm still readign about these thigns so bear with me.

SOmethign that ive been thinking....
Peopel are preaching to me "GO LS1, GO LS1! " and i'm tryign to figure out if that would be best for me. Yes its more powerful but its also more expensive. Not just the motor but all the accessories from RH to make it work. I want easy HP with no engine work involved, I'm not looking to add a cam or do any internal engine work anymore. I'm tired of building engines and just want somethign to drop right in.
With the LS1 swap I'm not too excited with the idea of having to pay $900+ for an upgraded radiator as well as $750 for a set of headers, $285 for a bigger fuel rail and $145 for a remote oil line..the list goes on.
THe LS1 is mighty indeed but for the cost involved I would be investing thousands more and extending my final drive time months and months. No thank you.
I dont see the problem with a 92-96 vette LT1. I'll have my 300hp and the relative ease of a LT1 install.
