well, my two cents is, if you start going in with ur guns blazing about muffler db and taking the law literally blah blah etc you might have a tough time pulling the dumb tactic... i say just stick to you thought it wouldnt be a problem sense it passed inspection... and that ur sorry it makes more noise, it was designed to 'look nice' or something

 

ive gotten outa 2 exhuast tickets thus far. and 2 lights tickets. now my car is 90% stock again so i dont get freakn pulled anymore... the 10% is my exhuast. which got me pulled the other day and i happen to be driving hjome from a keg party the next morning reaking of alcohol.... so i got to do the sobriety tests and such and i blew a .01. =] fun times.

 

I was speaking to a hpd officer the other day who works with me. He said that they give the tickets to people with super loud exhausts. Becuase people put mufflers on 'em that are ridiculous. Anything that meets the CA standards, I would suspect should be fine in the eyes of a officer. It won't be too loud. He said that they are giving tickets just because they see the chrome tip on the aftermarket exhausts. A black muffler would be best in those cases. He also said that a lot of the local officers also mistake induction from the aftermarket intakes as exsessive exhaust noise. I'd fight it.

 

(this probly wont help you out or anything, but on the subject of exhausts and VA being stupid..)

my friend got pulled over cause his exhaust was "too big" and didnt have ANYTHING to do with how loud it was. yeah, granted his exhaust WAS pretty big (maybe 5" in diameter) and looked f-ing ridiculous IMO, but since it was so big, it produced a very low toned, bass of an exhaust sound, not like those high-pitched exhausts that you typically see on civics that sound like pissed off bees or something. but anyway, i think thats really stupid to pull someone over cause their exhaust "looks too big"

 

in virginia (and especially hampton) anything not stock to your vehicle is not legal....

 

Well, i just got pulled in hampton for my exhaust, which isnt loud. If an exhaust is carb legal 50 states, how come i get a ticket? if it is carb legal, that means someone inspected it to state regulations, right?

Has it hit on the nose. Thats why in my other post Im looking for a Black stock style muffler. Ive been pulled and as the statte writes it you should be good as a first offender. Personally I think the guy just didnt have anything to do and was trying to kill some time :shrug: Ive been pulled just to have guy ask to see the stereo setup and look in the car and ask questions (In MD). I know its a hassle but Id go with the girl thats a clerk and fight it. Mine were thrown out, you should be good...This time.

 

I got a ticket for exhaust in VaBeach, and when i went to court, i showed the judge a picture of the silencer, the judge had no friggin idea what that was, so i told her is quieted the sound, returning it to STOCK like form. judge was like, so you fixed it, i was like yeah, and i got it dropped. its worth a shot. worked for me.

 

Same here cept i didnt have pics of my exhaust i told the judge that i put a silencer on it, then he asked me why i put the exhaust on in the first place, i told him i was having problems with air flow!HA..........LOL..................got the whole thing dropped................
