crazy as it seems, that sounds like something really simple to fix. Ive torn apart a million suspensions and put em back together at the shop, and ive run into some dif situations that have produced knock in the suspension. ill tell you what they were, maybe they can point you in a direction.

my friend had a del sol and whoever had worked on his suspension before had put the upper mount hardware together in the wrong order, so the strut was not bolted down to the rest of the assembly, and rather than squishing down under the weight of the car when he hit bumps and whatnot, it just slid up and down in the mount, and everytime it came into contact with anything, it made a loud thumping noise. i saw the same thing on a cavalier recently too.

the other thing i can think of that they may be talking about is on some struts, there are little tabs that help to line them up with the rest of the assembly. if theyre not seated in their grooves properly the suspension will be out of whack, and if its off by enough, it could be causing contact of some other component with another surface in the wheel well, hence the knock.

maybe im headed in the right direction maybe not. if you can give a more detailed explanation of the problem maybe i can help u further. In all the cases i described, fixing the problem meant at most goin and buyin a new strut/strut & spring assembly, which if bought used, can be downright cheap

Good luck, Jason

Where and when Nic? I'd prefer somewhere not too far (aka not around Mo's) because the thing takes a fucking beating. If you can't/don't want to come here we could do it at Daniel's maybe?

I'll be at work all weekend, except Sunday, but I'm sure yall probably have family stuff to do. Monday evening would probably work best for me...I get out of school at 6:40 and usually have a couple hours to kill. Either that, or next sunday.

Dennis you can buy the tune up stuff like wires, plugs, dist. cap and rotor, things like that. Fuel filter wont be bad either. Buy some oil and we can change that.
Also nic lives like right down the road from me i think, so if he has a garage it would be better to bring it to his house.

Pretty much...you know where Spring Run ends at Beach? I'm about 3/4 of a mile up Bundle right across the street. Got a garage, air tools, plenty of jack stands...I get off work at 5:30 all next week, so I'll be home by about 6. Any time after that is good for me. I could drop by someone else's place on monday or you could bring it by my place any day except mon/wed.
