Are you thinking that this mans family is actually going to sue FFX county? I'll tell you now that is NOT going to happen. This will probably all be settled out of court. They'll just write the family a check for how much they think the mans life was worth.
man fuck fairfax county pigs. all they do is harass young adults and give tickets for stupid shit. whenever you need them for something serious, they are never there. now on topic, just because a cop works a long shift doesn't mean it's okay for them to "accidentally" pull the trigger. if that cop couldn't handle a gun after 12 hours of work then that cop shouldn't be a cop in the first place. that cop should be charged and prosecuted.
imagine if that cop shot one of YOUR family members. how would you guys feel then?

"Police do everything for everyone all the time." Very few organizations run 24/7 365 days a year with duties like the police. People saying that they only give tickets for stupid shyt and are not there when THEY need help is pure ignorance....thats not me defending what happened either, im jus saying.
Is there a superior who made him work the extra hours? If so, they both need to be held accountable. What good is doing a job if you're too tired to do it right (especially when grasping the trigger of a loaded gun).
Is there not a law against driving drowsy? Being tired is not an excuse for anything. If you are tired and operating something that could potentially kill (whether car, metro train, or gun), you need to stop what you're doing and go to sleep. Being tired was no excuse in school or college, so it should be no excuse in real life.
Doesn't matter if its a cop or not. I don't have much against them, just the laws they are in work to uphold.

Uh well my mom's a nurse and they work GOD AWFUL shifts longer than that "up since 5am" bs. And guess what, when a nurse is so tired he/she is about to pass out and accidentally injects too much of a drug or the wrong drug and the patient gets injured or dies, that's the end of a career right there. And then there's lawsuits. Same shit if one of us had to work double shifts at our jobs and fell asleep behind the wheel and killed someone on the highway. We'd be arrested by the police and charged with manslaughter.
Look, I'm all for law enforcement, we need it to stop the real threats in society, theft, rape, murder, etc. If someone is breakin into my house, believe me the first thing I do will be to call the police and I'm sure they'll be there. But cops aren't ALL heroes and they certaintly aren't the most underpaid and selfless people in the world. Cops are just people, some of them are good, some of them are bad, most are in between.
My only gripe is that many cops in our region have the tendency to enforce the letter of the law to increase county revenue rather than the spirit of the law which is to look out for general welfare. If someone is DUI then take them to jail, but if someone has 25% tint and an aftermarket exhaust, how is that really harming anyone? And no don't give me that "well that's the law just follow it" line, cuz if we all lived like that we'd all be going 55mph on the beltway and cops would drive the speed limit too.
