I am sure that there are some out there with tons of mlieage on them that still work fine, but that does not change the fact that many of these are failing in the mid 100k mileage range. if he buys a 7.3 he will be buying a used truck and likely a higher mileage truck, the "maitenance" will be unknown. i still think that the 7.3 would be a great choice for the money. there are lots of them out there and if you look hard enough you can afind a good deal. just be knowledgeable about potential problems.

They Sell a short shift kit for the 6 speed which makes it much more fun to drive now only if they would move the reverse
the other dude that quoted me you got what i was tryin to say. the other thing as for chevy People either love them or hate them. the engine is made by Izuzu which is no problem but there rep is bad due to the years of problems they had there blocks are built good and the aliison transmision is good. dodge i dont know much about the small cummins because i work on the big ones but they are Tuff engines and easly maintained but also pricey so
