I don't know though. I'm going to wait for some post race reports to make my decision on what really happened.

Without seeing the race....I doubt it had anything to do with trying to take out De La Rosa. Uncertain track conditions along with a conservative chassis setup probably made aggressive driving difficult. De La Rosa isn't a threat to Schumi right now. He's an aggressive driver but he's not dumb. He wouldn't risk a point on a driver that is ZERO threat to him or Ferrari.

Now... Alonso's little stunt in practice was just stupid. Him and Schumi should have never been given the same penalty. FIA just did that to keep things exciting. They going to do everything in their power to keep Michael and Fernando together as much as possible.

Two words for you - wheel nut.

Also, Kubica was DQ'd for coming in too light. That means that Schmui moves up to 8th, picking up a point.

It was a damned good and very exicting race. I love how Speed thought he'd be ballzy and try to come out about 10 laps early with the dry tires. Oopsie. Went back in the pits about 2 laps later and went back to the inters.

I've been very impressed with Honda over the last few races. They did something to that chassis to make it much more competitve. They're going to give Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault a run. BMW has been slacking off. Toyota made a good showing too the last few races, except for today.

Instanbul should be interesting. Everybody has 3 weeks to rest and get prepared. Lets see if Honda can keep the momentum going.

yeah, wheel nut. I hear you, but it's not a one man team that wins championships. It's a good pit crew, a good car, AND a good driver... and maybe a little luck.

If Schumi wanted to be competitive today, he needed to really come in and switch from the inters to the dry. The Ferrari was the fastest car today. No doubt it would have been a different race. Did you see the tires when he finally came into the garage with 3 laps to go? There was *no* tread left on those things.

I think that was part of his problem in the schiane with de la Rosa, twice. That and he must have broken something. He was driving way too aggresive today for the conditions of the track. I wouldn't be surprised if the FIA goes and levies a penalty for that stunt with de la Rosa, not giving him room to pass when he knew the was running slower.

he and pedro started battling when laps were in the single digits. He did the right by being aggressive because the harder he blocked, the harder de la Rosa had to try, with the possibility of slipping up and going off course. Also, this was the battle for third place, so points were a big issue. You don't just let a guy pass you in that situation. Had it been 15 or 20 laps to go, he would've probably let de la Rosa pass, and gone back to the hard compound. Either way it didn't matter due to the mechanical failure.

the wheel nut was attributed to a mechanical failure of the wheel locking device. it was a mechanical failure, not human error.
the MSC/DLR/ROS incidents were all for position. MSC is not obligated to concede the position by any stretch of the imagination and broke no rules. He did however pay a price, as his retirement was a result of a track rod failure due to contact with ROS. he did not come in for drys because it would have dropped him as low as 6th, and they took the risk that they could hold 4th...He did not win 7 WDC by letting people by and making conservative decisions.

I haven't seen the race yet so you have me confused.... You said his retirement was a result of track rod failure, but it appears he didn't retire at all. He may have had an unschedualed pitstop, but as far as I can see he finished 9th and was moved to 8th as a result of a disqualification.

FCUK I wanna see this race!

At that point in the race, ALO had already retired so MSC was just out for the drive. Any points he would have scored would have moved him closer to ALO and the championship. He could have concieded the 3rd place to DLR and held off ROS and scored more points than he did. But, he had to drive like a moron and trash his car and take himself out 3 laps from the end. Also, you cannot cut off portions of the course to try and hold position, which is what MSC did. I think you'll see the FIA say something at Istanbul ...

he was out for points. every position is a point and had he not stuffed the car, he would have placed 4th, which is better then 6th if he gets tires. Even a pitstop is a risk as shown by the wheel nut issue.
The wording of the regs is that you cannot cut chicanes to gain position. Both times he cut the chicane, you can see him slow back down to let dlr catch back up. He did the same thing at monaco a few years ago. He cut the chicane to get by someone two lap in a row, then let them back by untill he could get by without cutting the chicane.

If the incident was being investigated, it woud have been announced yesterday. is was not, so it is considered a non-issue.

It was a retirement. He did however get classified becausehe still completed more distance the some drivers who did get the flag
