Reckless
Most of us will never learn if we don't go through something like this. It certainly slowed me down... I used to think I was invincible, but I quickly learned that was not the case. I'm just glad it was a set of handcuffs instead of a set of surgeons that tought me my lesson. I'm alive to talk about it, and I learned a lesson.
I had several tickets and I guess in my head, subliminally, I thought that was the worst thing that was going to happen.. Maybe a few fines in court, and I'd go on about my business. I needed to straighten up, and this was what did it for me. I wasn't learning anything and I wasn't changing long term after getting a ticket or two. It took something more severe for me.
Unfortunately, if my insurance had been adjusted accordingly, I would have slowed down.... instead, it all hit at once after all the tickets were done with, and my insurance more than doubled. If it had just gone up a little at a time, I would have realized it was time to slow down!
Yeah, once you feel the threat of jail and restricted license. You kind of grow up, I had friend that got busted for a burn out while leaving Va. Blvd(he was new to area at the time). They had guns drawn and a squad of cars, had to walk backwards and all. LOL, we picked him up and they had him in the orange jumpsuit with leg and arm shackles. He looked like a Jeffery Dhalmer case, so we laughed at him.
Well I got pulled doing 120+ in a 55.... The cop thought it was a joke, I guess I made his day. This was in Charles City. The cop was laughing and stuff when he walked up to the car, I guess he doesn't get much excitement, but he didn't write me a ticket. All he said was, "You aughtta' slow down boy."
A few weeks later I got pulled on the same road by a different cop doing 78/55, got a summons, plead guilty, got a fine and had to complete driving school by a certain date.
Got a 68/45, thought it was a 55, missed my date in court, found guilty in absence. paid a fine. I had an out of state license, switched it to Virginia the same day, never heard anything more about it. I the state I got the license, if you get a ticket before you are 18 you are supposed to loose your license until you are 18.... or it might be 21.
Get a good lawyer, a judge told my friend if he was going 1mph faster, he'd be going to jail, and he wasn't going nearly as fast as you.

I am preparing myself for jail I guess. It is true what you guys were saying, you really think your invinciable untill this happens to you. I usually have a lead foot, now I am holding up traffic while doing exactly the speed limit. Thanks for your help guys, I'll keep you updated.

If you get off completely, that won't be the last time this happens. I can almost promise you that. Look at it as a life experience. I'm not saying don't hire an attorney, because I did, but hopefully if you have to stay in for a weekend or something, it will be an eye opener. It's no way to live.
First off, sorry, I know it has been posted a million times but I searched it and didn't find a reckless that quite matched mine.
I got cought going 106/65. I am from Jersey and have only 2 points on my lisence. I am currently looking for a lawyer. I wasn't arrested on the spot. On my way home from SC I got pulled over again for going 84/65 (also reckless).
How screwed am I? Once again, sorry for making another reckless post =/
*Edit: I don't blame anyone but my own dumbass self for speeding. Not looking for sympothy, just advice. Thanks.

You'd probably be doing yourself a favor actually by getting a couple of weekends in jail.
Why? They don't let you bring in your own toothbrush anyways, you get one in your hygiene bag.
Wear white underwear, a white thermal(cuz it's cold in jail), and some white socks to court under your suit.

I used to act like such a hard ass when I was younger.... you know? I knew everything, and tere was nothing you could do to me to break me down, and there was nothing you could say or do to me that hadn't been done before. I wasn't worried about consequences, so I made some stupid decisions over the years. I wasn't totally out of control by any means, but I still did some stupid things that I regret now. Regardless, some people might shrug jail off like it's not a big deal, but really.. it is. It's a taste of what losing your real world freedom is really like. I shared a "dorm" (big open room with bunks in it) with rapists, drug dealers, etc. Looking at the big picture, it doesn't matter what you're in there for. You may have ran a red light, or you may have cut your grandmothers throat in her sleep.. You're still in the same jumpsuit in the same jail, and you're viewed as one of them. A criminal. To me, jail was a big deal. I was given a small box with a few things in it and a gym mat type thing to put down on the floor to sleep on. When that happens, you start thinking about how you'd rather be laying in that big comfortable queen sized down filled bed that you have at home.. so nice and cozy, and relaxing.. in the comfort of your own home, maybe watching a little tv or having a late night snack. It's nice to be able to do things like that, but you realize what you take for granted when you're in jail. Quality food, being able to go to sleep when you want to go to sleep, being told what to do/when to do it/how to do it... being told when you have to wake up... etc. Everything is controlled, and there is no freedom. You do what you're told, unlike the real world where you may or may not have a choice to do whatever you choose to do.
I work with a guy who claims he loved jail and would go back in a heartbeat because they fed him three times a day and that is more than he eats at home in the free world. I just shook my head and walked off when I heard that.... That's retarded.
Anyway, sorry for rambling on and on. I'm just trying to say that I appreciate what I went through, because it really opened my eyes in a way that nothing else could have. I was so pissed off at the time because I was spending time in jail (among other punishments) for SPEEDING. I was going to be locked in a cell with a convicted rapist, for speeding........ it just blew me away! I just couldn't understand why they would do that to me. Now it all makes sense! It's to make you realize where you're headed if you don't straighten up. I wouldn't want to be locked in a relatively small concrete room for an extended period of time. I wouldn't even want to do it again for a weekend, or even a few hours. It's humbling though, and I think the OP needs to experience it to see for himself. I don't wish that on anyone, but that's the best way to ensure a change is made.
