diesel tuners
hey whats up man, i recomend the edge or the bully dog. both are great tuners and have there ups and downs. ( i sell and install both ) the bully dog has major monitor problems, bully dog themselves told me that, the tuners are great not a prob yet, and the edge the only problem i see, is that if they fail the truck wont run. but if that happens all u have to do is unhook it ( few min at most ) and the truck is back to stock.. the first series of duramaxes ( lb7) have some injector probs, i have had mine done ( 75k) but its a factory fix that they extended the warrenty on, and that completely fixes the problems. the duramaxes DO NOT have a piston prob, the prob is with the injectors a faulty injector can take a pison out easily. the pistons will handle extreme hp and heat ( 6.6 pulling trucks are seeing 1800 degress ) and still holding up ( lb7 and lbz ) but the lbzs are better as they are lower compression.. i have a edge/ additude on my 01 gm and has been wonderful for 70+k. the old 6.5 also did not have fuel issues, pumps were replaced on many occasions when not needed. the prob lies in the box ( fsd ) on the side of the injector pump. i def know i have had numerous 6.5s and now have a 95 6.5 pulling truck.... the fsd sits on a plate of aluminum and just obsorbs all the surrounding heat, and eventually fails cause the pump to act up, and if not caught will fail. but on 80% of the times it was not the pump, now that they have figured this out, people make coolers ( fsd coolers ) that locate the driver away from the engine heat, and bam, the prob with the injector pumps are gone... the power strokes have had numerous probs, mostly headgaskets and turbo failures. and the cummins ( working on a pulling tuck for that to ) is a wonderfull motor, and ungodly stout. for a while there is was the only motor of the big three that was not a lighduty motor. keep egts in sight ( 1200 after turbo 1400 before ) and most of the time if u put a tuner on a cummins, u need a lift pump. the factory pump just doesnt make enough psi to hold the tuner. if u put a gauge on it and it drops below 10 psi u will need a pump to keep up with the fueling requirements of a tuner.... other than that have at it, anything over 60psi on an older cummins the head needs to be o-ringed and headstuded, and the newer ones just the studs. and if u have any questions i have pm'd u
I have a MBRP catback, ATS housing and wicked wheel, Juice and Attitude, and a AFE stage 2 CAI. I get between 22-24 mpg on the hwy and about 16mpg towing my enclosed 7500lb trailer. 02 escursion with 7.4. I leave it set for setting 4 with normal driving and 2 for towing. I love this truck. Enjoy your diesel.
