fitting carbon fiber hood on 240sx
lol, who told you this? Just because the name is common does not make it a quality part...
i had a seibon hood on my S and i some issues with it when i first installed it. my fitment was ok, not the best. but i had my latch adjusted a little then the hood closed fine. i didnt need to use hood pins.
follow up. i took off my aluminum cooling plate to get access to latch assembly. the 3 bolts were somewhat loose and off maybe an 1/8". i moved the latch up, tightened down, and BAM!! THE MF finally shut. the spring is still a little tight so im going to spray some PB BLASTER to lube it a little bit. when i released the hood the recoil looked like i could have shot some boulders off the hood. lol, ill get it fixed tomorrow, at least it latches now.
When a hood peels, it doesn't have anything to do with the stock latch. It's because the hood is supported from the middle, and the hood isn't strong enough on the sides to support the aero loads at speed, and the hood skin delaminates from the substructure (which has the latch attached). I've seen it happen a number of times..
understand, someone else explained to me what hood peel was. as much as i drive my car i doubt i have to worry about it. i dont race my car either. i can see if my hood was ram air, then the air rushing in would create a lift, but its not. anyway the hoods on and super tight. i think i will be alright without hood pins. i dont have extra insurance for nothing.
