techniacally the predecesor of the supra would be the celica wouldn't it? more technically the celica supra?

I guess I'm only going of TRD's train of thought. The 3000GT which is basically a Supra with a TRD kit takes it name from the 2000GT. The 2000GT was Toyota's first supercar and I highly DOUBT anyone would call the Celica a supercar. Most think of the Supra as Toyota's second supercar. Furthermore it was the ENGINE that set the Supra and the Celica apart. One could argue that the Supra was just an offshoot of the Celica however many still think of the Supra as the second coming of the 2000GT.

Furthermore the 2000GT has an admirable racing history. As does the Supra. The 2000GT is a VERY treasured classic. It has limited production numbers and sells at auctions for over $100,000. Sounds like a Supra of the past to me.

on this topic though, all the rumors i've heard mention something like a 5000GT or something, a newer model of the 2000GT. obviously, a followup of the supra. guess it's about time that they released it, since there's the new rx7 in the rumor-mill, the skyline coming to the states, ... and being as how the rx7/supra/skyline are all in that "super import" class, then it would make sense to have the competition again.

 

Here is a concept that I actually kinda like. It looks like the 2000GT in the front. Whether it is a Supra is speculation however.

The top one looks like a more realistic version.. but i like the black (bottom) version a little better... minus the dumb looking tail-lights

 

The tail lights go from blue to red when you apply the brakes. I bet it would start an all new ricer fad.

 

well the MR2 widebody IS a 2000GT, so eat that!
