Building a sanctioned drag strip in the 757.
i am all for u guys getting a track together...but no offense to the draggers but it seems that the "scene" is moving toward drifting and away from drag racing a little.
all i am saying is that make the parking lot big enough so we can rent it out for some gymkahna events...heehee.
all in all, u got my support.

It costs roughly a million dollars a mile to create an interstate highway. So, for an 1/8 mile track it would be less than $200,000. I think an 1/8 is more feasible for the Hampton roads area. It would be easier to find a location for it. Also, it would be cheaper to build, maintain, and buy insurance for. It would be safer because of the lower speeds. The sound levels would be less, because you won't have top fuel ect. running.
I think this is a doable project if everybody puts some effort into it. The main thing is to have a good small group of leaders to organize and communicate this effort. I'm in.....
what happened to the old airfield in smithfield or chesapeake or somewhere they used to run when I was a kid? If we could find existing infrastructure, that would cut costs tremendously.
Anybody ever been to the bugouts in manassas? That facility would be a good model. There is a nice little 1/8 back in the woods along with a small oval track (could be built later or never). They use that place for all kinds of get togethers, and it has been around forever.
unfortunatley street racing will never stop. a dragstrip would more than likely reduce the amount that goes on. the problem would be that no matter what, there would still be limited access to it. to truly make a big difference in the amount a street racing the track would have to be open almost every day. however, the cost and overall logistics of having it open everyday would be out of hand. i could see how a seasons pass sort of thing might help, but that would be hard to work out. as a community we could gather facts and good info to help sway those who are in the position to make it happen. a petition might help as well. my dad and i have many contacts in the political world, i can flex those muscles if needed. i also work for a magazine that deals with va car stuff. ive been gaining contacts with that and it also gives me a good outlet to reach the public. just let me know what i can do.
