Totaled car.
It's not about raping the insurance company. I assure you they will not let that happen. I just wanted to try and help you get a fair deal, because it's not likely that you will without some help. It's a 20+ year old Civic, and they're not going to want to give you much of anything just because it's not worth anything on paper.
I have absolutely no warm fuzzy feelings about Honda's, but even I must admit that it was a clean car and probably worth substantially more to another Honda enthusiast than what the insurance company is going to offer you. Remember, you do not have to take their initial offer. It's going to be low. $2500 + the car is kind of asking a lot. I think it can be done, but I don't think it's going to be easy to talk them into letting you keep it and hanging onto that kind of money too. That's probably 2.5 timse what they're going to offer you off the bat.

Yeah, I understand that seems like a lot, but they or you have no idea how much I liked this car. I realize it was just an 89 honda civic, but at the same time, I spent every night for a while to try to get it to look good, and I did not ask to be hit. If I would have payed someone to do everything that me and my friends did,I would have 2500 just in labor on the car. That is what sucks the most is that They don't understand I have to start over on another car and do it again. I talked to the insurance company on the phone, and they said they would work with me in any way because it was her fault, and they want to avoid going to court. Hopefully they were telling the truth. They still didn't come by yet though. My friend got 1300 when he got rear ended in his primered 89 civic, and his car was still drivable, so if he got that much I hope they give me something reasonable. Thanks for the input zero. Any way I should talk to these people? Any special things to say?
Thats why you can never drive your project car on the road
I was offered ~3k for my celica by the insurance company drive train alone is worth more than that. they only wanted to give me 1,400 if I kept the car...
Bring them all the receipts you can and good luck

Ok thanks man. I appreciate it. The only problem is, I didn't keep all of the receipts so I have to find what I have left. You can still smell the paint. That is how recent the paint was done. Hopefully that will help. Like I said i don't want every penny I can get, I just want to get enough to get a good start on another car.

Nothing in particular that you need to say, but please, realize that you don't have to accept their offer and you have every right to attempt to negotiate with them. Do not accept anything from them if you're not happy with it, and by all means, do not cash any checks they write you.
I do want to say one thing though.. I understand how much you care(d) about your project, but understand the fact that it doesn't matter how much you liked the car in terms of how much you're going to get for it. That doesn't stand up in court, nor does it increase the value of the car on paper. I know what you were trying to say, but don't turn down their first offer with reasoning like "No way! You don't understand how much I liked that car. You have to give me more because I really, really, really liked it!"
