I bought my bike last year... 2006 Yamaha R6s w/ 3600 miles... came with blue eyes halo kit, scorpion exhaust, k&n filters, blue windscreen, new oil and oil filter, bike cover, helmet, and was in perfect condition. I paid $6300 for it a year ago. I see 2002 models trying to sell for the same price. I was like.. hmm.. I should put mine up forsale for $9000! LOL!
I hear what you're saying, and while I agree that the prices some people ask for their bikes are ridiculous - but can you blame a guy for getting the most money possible for his bike if the market will bear it? Seriously. I think the fact that these guys find buyers at these inflated prices is unreal, but I can't blame a guy for making the most of a sale. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. I bought my bike in January before prices rose with the season and before everyone and their brother was looking for a bike, giving sellers the advantage. I wouldn't pay $5,500 - or even the $4,100 he got for an 11 year old gixxer with 22,000 miles on it - but the guy found a buyer, so good for him. Do you give your shit away when you sell it?
In addition, I think even paying 12,000 for a brand new bike, even 9,000 is a waste of money, and is only further inflating the used market. Although I do realize that motorcycles are on the cutting edge of performance and must absorb large costs in R&D, as well as don't have the mass production advantage that cars do, but can you honestly tell me it costs as much to make a liter bike as it does some small cars? The margin made on motorcycles must be huge. I can't imagine a bike costing 5 or 6 grand to make. This inflation can be seen in the price of fairings alone! 200 -300 dollars for a piece of plastic?! really???
Funny Im the guy selling the 06 busa for 10K. I get calls all the time asking would I take XXXX. When I was looking last year I saw an 07 at a dealer for $10,800 out the door (brand new), I didn't see the value in it so I walked. Then Looked on craigslist and found the one Im selling. 06 limited 1134 miles on it (I loved the color) already had the mods done to it I wanted to do it and I payed $10,800 cash. It was silly clean female owned (her 3rd) and very, very well taken care of. IMO I was happy with what I bought. If you dont like the price someone is selling it for why complain? Everyone knows that if you look around hard enough you can find a "deal" but I would rather pay a premium on something If I know if it's been maintained. Now Is asking 10k for a bike with tastefull mods excessive? sure. Im not selling some stunted, dragged out, beat on, dropped over bike. Go pay 6500 then spend 2k on some upgrades and enjoy yourself and make it your bike.
I agree 1000000% with this post. Some people just want stupid high prices for shit. Cars, trucks, whatever. They also don't want to come down at all on prices. Also if your buying new, the dealerships in the Richmond area are crazy and won't deal at all even with cash in their faces. They don't because they will always get their money from someone financing the bike.
You just have to look and wait it out and you will find what you want for the price you want.
I love people selling stretched and lowered shit for like 15 to 20 grand. To me that lowers the value.
