When I Duplicolored my winter wheels, I blasted them, hit them with etching primer, and painted them. I didn't even clearcoat them so I could touch them up with color easier. They're winter wheels, the paint is going to get destroyed after all..
I think they're the same color that you used, but they look much darker on my car for some reason.

All they really need is a scuff though, you're just trying to break the gloss of the existing finish to increase the surface area that the paint has to adhere to.
