Depreciation is a curve, you know, and DOES level out. It may have steepened (which is why buying a new luxury car right now is bad if you care about resale value), but it's still a curve. The "economy" depreciation his has already been hit, and the value very well may go UP when the economy recovers. I mean, look at the used prices right now- late-model luxury cars (2003-2006) have taken a hit equivalent to about 3 years depreciation over the past 6 months. The actual inherent value of these cars hasn't changed, only the ability of people to buy them, and the desperation of those trying to sell them. Come 2 years from now, if the economy recovers... they'll be worth about exactly what they are now. And even if they do continue to depreciate, it's going going to drop but so far. Right now is a VERY VERY good time to buy a used luxury car. Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus - even Corvettes, all going for ridiculously cheap right now.

Egon made the smart choice to buy used. Looks like one hell of a nice car, too!

Just sayin.

Did I say anything about what the OP has, I commented on some young kid who said go big or go home. Just saying...

I made a generalized statement and used your quote. You made an assumptive statement wether it be for OP or someone else.

Just to clarify someone said, it makes noe sense to spend that much money.
Someone else said go big or goh ome and than you made your statement. So it sure sounded lke you were joining in. My apologies if you weren't.

I was just making a statement about go big or go home, it is a retarded statement. People are way over extended as it is in general and I would think that philosophy has some to do with it. My statement wasn't directed at anyone in particular.

Never again.
I agree that for someone like you buying a new car is stupid...you have to hang on to a car for a while for it to make sense. I only buy new for daily drivers...my newest vehicle is a 2005 F150 and my wife drives a 2002 minivan. I was driving a 94 F150 before that and she was driving a 95 T-Bird. We pay cash for our vehicles and drive them until it doesn't make sense to repair them. There's a little more peace of mind buying new because I know how well the car has been taken care of. Look around at some of the cars that dealers take in...notice the wear patterns on the tires, etc. People drive them for a year or two knowing that they are going to trade it in while it is under warranty...do you really think they care about performing preventive maintenance? It's not stuff that will affect the vehicle's reliability while they own it, so why should they care about changing the oil or rotating the tires?
