Can a get a reliable/good condition Civic for $4000?
Brian .... you should check out the Auctions ..... I can get you in the dealer auction on Wed mornings .... or go to the public one on Sat mornings.
Tidewater has a public one on Sat as well as American.

You can pretty much get Honda parts out of vending machines, if it were me I'd get a 98-01 Civic and pay someone to do some good maintenance on it, you could probably keep it under $4k. Might not be the prettiest car ever, but Honda's usually run for a looooooooooong time.
You know once you get around 10 years old, you can get an Accord for about the same price as a Civic right? From what I've seen, 95% of Civics fall into 3 categories.
1. Completely stock, cheap, but beat to shit
2. Horribly modified and cheap
3. Heavily modified, in good shape, and expensive.
Accords don't seem to be like that. You can find really nice, compltely stock Accords for ~$4000 all day long.

2001 Civic Sedan-Automatic-Around 100k Miles-only really has cosmetic flaws-Hope this helps

+ 1 to flite.
How quick are you trying to get her out of debt? You could pick up a diesel golf/jetta as well for fairly inexpensive. Just make the payments, on a 8-10k car.

Do you hate Brian? Why would you recommend someone who's trying to get out of debt buy a used VW?
^ Hahaha... good call on the Accord. I'm going to look into that along with a Corolla and Focus. Used domestics depreciate even faster.
