Trying to lower my front end by chopping my fork springs
i am glad for everyones concern, but its not as bad as it seems. it just isnt a good idea on my bike i guess. i have seen a few professionally built bike that have done it that way and that is how i got the idea.
anyone ever heard of a total front end swap on a bike? sorry if it sounds stupid to all you haters out there, but keep your bullshit to yourself.

that's doable, but you're gonna be hard pressed to find a front end that's shorter than your stock forks, especially with radial brakes, etc.
I wasn't trying to be a dick, just stating the facts.
anyway, like I said, you CAN lower the forks internally, but JUST cutting springs ain't the way to do it.
in all honesty, chino hit the nail on the head, making some limiting spacers to limit the stroke of the fork, that makes your overall fork length shorter, which lowers the front. The problem is going to be getting it all back together. If you made 2" spacers, you'd have to compress the spring 2" just to get the fork caps on. On a damper rod fork, you can add the spacer under the damper rod and cut the spring the appropriate amount to compensate (preferably on a straight rate spring). Thats how my girl's bike's forks are lowered. The problem with doing that with a cartridge fork like your CBR's is that the spring pressure actually holds the cartridge together. Cutting the spring means nothing really holding the clip in at the top of the cartridge, and you run a serious risk of things coming apart. not good, especially on a bike you're gonna drag race with a blower!
now, the PROPER way to do it would be to shorten the whole cartridge assembly, which in all honesty isn't that hard, but you'll have to cut and re-thread the top of the cartridge, or cut out a section and weld it back together. Either way, it needs to be done RIGHT or it's going to come apart, and pogo your butt right into the pavement.
