Gun stores in Norfolk area.
Winfree's has a website, but it's for little more than their contact info.
Nothing wrong with Ron Hess, he just doesn't have patience for idiots, hood rats, and time wasters. He's opinionated, but has no problem with a person who says "I understand what you're saying, but I want it anyways."

As far as Hess, heard he's/the store is like you said and is helpful to those serious about a product and not to BS. Have you personally used either of these?
You talking about Winfree's Ammo? I just checked them out and their site is pretty bland. They take call orders? You used them?

Winfree's I bought from multiple times. This is the Winfree's I'm talking about http://www.winfreefirearms.com/ (Winfree's Firearms and Cigarettes...I guess you could say I like salt of the earth stores).
Ron Hess I almost bought from, but he told me "it looks like it's going to be a while before I'm able to get one of these, so you'd be better served by seeing if you can find one elsewhere." I've been in the shop and talked with him a few times though. Never gave me any trouble other than to say I was ridiculous for wanting a Ruger AR in the first place, but once I said "I know people feel that way, but I want the piston mechanism and I like Ruger" he said "ok, let me look into ordering one." His price was $1500 when Bob's wanted $1800 (and Bob's was going to have to order it too). Then again, I came in wearing a suit and tie as I just got off work.
I saw this review of Ron Hess on google and I think it is a spot-on description:
"So i went in specifically looking for a specific rifle that other shops (Bob's) simply said "You might not have it until Christmas" and it was only July. Yes... I took some flak when I mentioned wanting stainless steal and the possibility of changing out the stock. "What, you want to look cool out at the rifle range or do you want it to be a hunting rifle?" Most of the pokes at me was about making my rifle too heavy for hunting white-tails... He was right, but i KNEW what i wanted before heading into the shop. Once you make it clear what you want and why you want it; he'll make sure that you get it. When you work through Ron for a weapon, don't expect a fancy shop with everyone wearing a company polo trying to sell you something you don't really need. Do your homework and Ron will respect you more and treat you accordingly. His shop is more like a garage than a showroom. This individual can get you pretty much whatever you want at bottom prices. He is that individual that wants to arm America!!! You can tell that by his low prices and the fact that he openly carries. Rifle: Received within 10 days. Scope: Currently on order at prices better than internet. Prognosis: Entertaining trips to the gun shop."

As far as him not understanding you wanting the Ruger AR, WOW! I am one of those who think its a nice riffle also! I like the pics you posted up in the ammo can! Nice.
So is Bob's a good place to check out? Yes/No/Maybe? Just wanting to check things out. Wanting to use my time in the are well. Make a weekend out of it.
Checked out the edit, seems like a pretty decent shop. Maybe he weeds out the DA's that way. The ones who get butthurt over comments made aren't really serious in the first place.

Yeah, That was the site I checked out. I think I'll try and give them a call sometime this week.

Last time I was in Bob's (this summer) they had like 3 of every evil black rifle you could think of. Good place to look, I just don't like their prices (for instance, they had an MSAR STG for $2800...I went online when I got home to see what made them so special....impact guns - a website for good prices, not always the best, but consistently decent and a fair comparison to local stores - has them for $2000.

He's one of those guys who says "why would you buy anything other than a Colt or Bushmaster, those are proven guns."

So other than Bob's being a maybe you can't personally recommend a shop in that area worthwhile to check out? In LBC we have the same ole two pawn shops and a Ace hardware/Petreys Gun Store. LOL, not much of an option. Just looking for a chan..... something different.
Damn. You ever checked out Ables, as far as online goes?

I know of Able Ammo, but I've never bought from them (they've been recommended to me in the past though). www.budsgunshop.com is one with crazy cheap prices on some guns. Don't really know how they do it.
Nobody really carries much. Ron Hess had a few ARs and a few handguns (his shop really is a mess btw). Winfree's has a couple of glass cases of guns and a rifle rack, but it's not a ton of stuff. Bass Pro has a decent selection...whatever I may think of buying from a big box store I have to admit that. Nobody ever has the kind of guns I like though. I.e. Mini-14? Easy. Target Mini-14? Special order. Remington 870? Easy. Remington 870 Wingmaster Classic Trap? Special order. I lucked out this last time at Winfrees they had a Ruger Mk III Competition, but I think even they were surprised lol.

Thanks and btw + rep for the help and info! I'm about to go to sleep on the keyboard. Hahaha
You're talking to a man who is a member of several gun forums, holds a concealed handgun permit, has been an NRA member for years, and is going to talk with the landlord tomorrow to see if she has an issue with putting a gun rack on the wall because too much room is being taken up by firearms lol.

I may PM you tomorrow about another question I have.
Thanks again!
